Position Summary

 

Acuen is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Manager to support our operations Commerce City, CO. 

 

This position serves as the technical lead in managing laboratory equipment and software systems maintenance, managing engineering committees, overseeing research projects, and providing standards interpretations when needed. Drives consistency, integrity and engineering quality in the establishment and application of product testing and certification requirements. Provides input to leadership to achieve technical objectives and operational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing the lab engineering staff which includes hiring, coaching, and assigning work responsibilities.
  • Works closely with laboratory staff and management to provide improvements and ongoing maintenance of laboratory equipment and software systems.
  • Manages four engineering committees, working with membership to draft, implement, and maintain consistent and technically appropriate testing and certification requirements
  • Develops and manages research project plans and budgets including collecting, analyzing, and communicating information back to engineering committees.
  • Is a technical resource for members and staff, analyzing test data

Requirements

Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, LabView (a plus), AutoCAD, and other programs as required.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with at least 5 years of experience, including supervisory experience.

Working Conditions

  • Work performed in both laboratory and field environments
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions when working in the field, including heat, cold, wind, and precipitation
  • Exposure to laboratory chemicals, solvents, and materials requiring adherence to safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • May work near moving mechanical equipment, pressurized systems, or electrical components
  • Occasional exposure to noise, dust, fumes, or airborne particles
  • Work may require occasional travel to project sites, client locations, or other facilities
  • Schedule may include overtime or irregular hours to meet project deadlines or support urgent testing needs

 

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS & DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods while conducting laboratory and field testing
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Sufficient hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for handling samples, tools, and testing equipment
  • Adequate vision (with or without correction) to read instruments, observe reactions, and record precise measurements
  • Ability to bend, kneel, and reach at various heights to access equipment, materials, and test sites
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate small components and operate delicate or specialized instruments
  • Adequate hearing (with or without aids) to detect equipment alarms, verbal instructions, and environmental cues
  • Ability to wear and operate required personal protective equipment (PPE) in both laboratory and field environments
