Laboratory Technician I

Under the supervision of the Operations Superintendent with daily direction from the Laboratory Manager, performs a variety of routine laboratory duties relating to the quality control of drinking water supply and wastewater treatment.

Essential 

• Inspects and monitors industrial discharges, collecting samples, analyzing them and preparing standard reports.  
• Analyzes water samples for the City’s drinking water supply and completes monitoring reports.  
• Collects and analyzes wastewater samples for both quality control operations and governmental monitoring requirements.        
• Data entry of general laboratory data on laboratory computers.  
• Other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager and/or Operations Superintendent.

• High School diploma or GED
• One year of experience in a laboratory.  An equivalent combination of training and experience may also be acceptable. 

• Within one year of acquiring the position, employee must obtain an Illinois Department Public Health Certificate of Approval for Total Coliform and E. coli testing.
• Ability to follow standardized testing procedures.
• Sufficient computer skills to perform the position requirements efficiently.
