Job Summary:
Provides information for patient diagnosis and treatment by processing and maintaining the stability of patient specimens and by performing the ordered laboratory tests.
Position Details:
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
- Shifts: Days Monday thru Friday. 10am - 6:30pm
- Training: Flexible hours for the first 4-6 weeks, rotating shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all testing that qualifies under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) definition of moderate complexity testing, as well as waived testing.
- Follow the department procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Adhere to the department quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and correct or immediately notify manager.
- Follow the laboratory�s established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory�s established acceptable levels of performance.
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory�s established performance specifications
Essential Skills/Knowledge:
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
- Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
- Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
- Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
- Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients� care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to act as a good representative of the company.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor�s degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or related science, which includes a one-year internship in an approved clinical laboratory required.
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification required.
- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) or Medical Lab Technician (MLT) certification required.
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience as a clinical, hospital, or referral laboratory setting, utilizing electronic Health Records (EHR) required. One (1) year of experience in phlebotomy preferred.
