The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

This Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples utilizing moderately to highly complex methods. Responsibilities include specimen identification and accessioning in the Laboratory Information System, gram stains, direct antigen testing and culture identification with susceptibility testing. Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work independently and possess strong organizational skills. He/ She is also responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments/ equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all lab policies.


TYPICAL DUTIES:

Set up and processing of samples for Microbiology testing. Testing of patient samples using gram stain and rapid EIA technologies, sorting and organizing patient samples for testing and storage; adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols; reporting results of testing via LIS/ instrument interface, as well as manual data entry; answering telephone inquiries; maintaining laboratory stock of kits/ reagents; performing daily/ weekly/ monthly preventative maintenance on lab equipment; participating in training of technologists.

Perform patient testing with primary emphasis on Bacteriology cultures and associated rapid technologies for identification and/or susceptibility testing. With experience- opportunity to rotate into special MIC testing, Mycology, Parasitology, or Mycobacteriology.

QUALIFICATIONS:

General Requirements:

- Effective interpersonal skills, and maintains a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times.

- Is able to prioritize and maintain focus while performing multiple tasks.

- Adherence to all University, Division and Department policies, including I CARE.

- Adherence to all laboratory safety procedures.

Minimum Educational requirements:

NYS license in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category

Preferred:

BS in Medical Technology with clinical laboratory experience and NYS license in the Clinical Laboratory Technologist category.

Schedule

up to 16 hours per week. Some flexibility in start/finish times.
