JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Technologist/MLT –Registered will work in all areas of the laboratory. Those being chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, hematology, urinalysis, blood gases, coagulation, and serology. Tests will be performed on blood, body fluids, and tissues as ordered by the patient’s physician.
The Medical Technologist – Registered reports directly to the Section Lead, Chief Tech or Laboratory Director. This staff position once deemed trained and competent will be responsible for performing waived, moderate and high complexity test resulting unsupervised.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
a.) Bachelors of Science Degree including completion of an approved Clinical Laboratory Science program
Licensure/Certification:
a.) MT (ASCP, AMT or equivalent)
Work Experience:
a.) Technically competent in trained laboratory sections and is capable of
performing patient care for all age groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:
Review all policies and procedures initially and at the time of revisions or when new procedures are offered and applicable to their job responsibilities. Will recommend improvements as warranted. Will also stay current with communication requirements from various sources (e.g., lab leadership, organizational communications, etc.).
Operates all laboratory equipment as trained. Is competent with performing maintenance and calibration as necessary. Performs, monitors, and approves QC requirements as necessary.
Is current with acceptable levels of CEU requirements based upon certification requirements as necessary.
Performs patient testing in an appropriate manner such that the quality and accuracy of results are acceptable. Identifies and corrects problems with specimen/instruments that could adversely affect patient care.
Participates and successfully passes proficiency testing requirements. Participates in special projects as required by lab leadership.
Will use applicable safety devices and/or PPE’s when handling and testing biohazardous materials.
Performs phlebotomy duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Specimen collection, including patient preparation - if applicable, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation and storage of specimens.
Able to apply, perform, and implement trained laboratory procedures.
Able to perform each trained test method, use instruments as instructed, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each test performed.
A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
Apply quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.
An awareness of the factors that influence test results.
Able to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results.
Exhibits a positive first impression to all customers by following institutional service care standards.
