Responsibilities:

GENERAL SUMMARY
Prepares to meet the competencies required to perform specialized testing and support for the laboratory section. Performs complex technical assignments with supervisory oversight.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Performs and interprets routine Blood Bank tests, including ABO/Rh typing, direct and indirect antiglobulin tests, cross matches, transfusion reaction workups, fetal screen, and Kleihauer-Betke stains.
• Performs circulator duties, including logging in of specimens, checking patient computer files, prioritizing and triaging work, component preparation, component issues, answering phones, and other miscellaneous tasks.
• Performs blood product processing and manipulation, including rejuvenation, freezing, deglycerolizing, washing, pooling, and thawing.
• Completes corresponding paperwork.
• Performs daily reagent quality control and participates in equipment quality control and preventative maintenance.
• Performs antibody identifications by using routine antibody panels and reference procedures, including the use of enzymes, synsorbs, absorptions/elutions, antibody titrations, antigen screening, and other specialized tests.
• Performs irradiation of blood products.
• Performs retypes on units received from other facilities, processes, and inputs products into inventory, monitors inventory levels for appropriateness, and orders additional products if necessary.
• Participates in stocking supplies, cleaning general lab areas, and answering phones as needed.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, or in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology with advanced certification in Medical Technology required or
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Licensed Clinical Lab Technologist NYS license eligible upon hire required
