Your Impact at Lila

Lila Sciences is seeking Platform Scientists/Engineers (Open-Level) to drive the ideation, prototyping, and transfer of new concepts that enable the future of AI Science Factories. The successful candidates will join Lila’s Platform Science team to generate bold ideas in collaboration with diverse scientific teams, translate them into prototypes, and deliver them into autonomous research systems. You will play a key role in bridging disciplines, bringing together chemistry, materials science, computation, and engineering to create scalable, transformative capabilities.

Level of seniority will be determined by merit and experience.

What You'll Be Building

• Collaborate with a wide range of scientific teams to conceive and develop novel experimental concepts for AI Science Factories
• Lead the ideation process to identify opportunities for breakthrough instrumentation, workflows, and integrations
• Prototype and validate new apparatus and software tools that bring conceptual designs into reality
• Transfer successful prototypes into production-ready systems for autonomous experimentation
• Document and communicate development from early ideation through design, testing, and integration

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• MS or PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related field
• Demonstrated ability to generate and refine conceptual ideas in collaboration with diverse scientific teams
• Hands-on experience designing and building custom scientific apparatus and/or software tools
• Strong programming experience (Python, C++, or similar) applied to scientific or engineering workflows
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environment with excellent communication skills

Bonus Points For

• Experience with lab automation, robotics, or instrument control software
• Background in computational modeling, simulation, or machine learning applied to scientific domains
• Experience with hardware prototyping tools (3D printing, machining, microfluidics, etc.)
• Prior work transferring prototypes into scalable production systems
• Industry or national lab experience in research engineering or experimental science

Compensation

We expect the base salary for this role to fall between $108,000–$170,000 USD per year, along with bonus potential and generous early equity. The final offer will reflect your unique background, expertise, and impact.
