Description

Non-exempt position. Expected to maintain bench competencies and work at the bench for at least 50% of time worked. Function independently and collaboratively with the laboratory leadership in performing all major work responsibilities of professional laboratory practice. Perform a wide variety of complex diagnostic and therapeutic testing, and act as a resource for problem resolution and interpretation of results. May be responsible for instrument correlation, and method validation. Correlate data based on clinical knowledge, technical expertise, and other conditions affecting test results. Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs and performance improvement activities. Assist with staff and student training, orientation of new employees, updating procedures, and providing technical leadership for areas of responsibility. Provide direction and problem solving skills for laboratory functions. Implement standardization efforts in the laboratory as directed by laboratory leadership.

*Individuals hired into this position are required 2 complete 2 years in the role before becoming eligible to transfer to other positions within Mayo Clinic.



Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Histotechnology, or appropriate health related field.  
  • Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or Histotechnology with completion of a clinical internship also acceptable. 
  • An HEW certificate may be substituted for the specified degree. 
  • One year of experience actively working in a moderate or high complexity clinical laboratory.

  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance.
  •  May be required to work weekends or overtime.

 Preferred: 

ASCP Certification in area of Specialty: Blood Banking, SBB (ASCP), Chemistry, SC (ASCP), Cytotechnology, SCT (ASCP), Hematology, SH (ASCP), Microbiology, SM (ASCP). 

Preferred: 

Four years of experience actively working in a moderate or high complexity clinical laboratory, working knowledge of laboratory information and reporting systems, excellent working knowledge of laboratory regulatory standards, knowledge of CLIA standards, experience with operational and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments and assays. Willingness to work at other sites preferred.
