Reports to: Senior Chemical Development Specialist

Location: Pointe-Claire, QC

Summary:

The Chemical Laboratory Specialist works into new product development and quality-related issues. Reporting into the Senior Chemical Development Specialist, this person works on new formulas development and recommendations, ingredients, packagings, processes, etc. helping the Senior Chemical Development Specialist to reach targets in terms of product line contribution as a business unit.

Responsabilities:

  • Support Senior Chemical Development Specialist in developing formulas that will meet and exceed performance and benefits defined in the New Product Development Process.
  • Help on ingredient and raw material sourcing. Obtaining samples and perform testing following the recommendations.
  • Prepare and mmaintain SDS reports and other chemical related documentation. 
  • Verify that SDSs meet regulatory standards (GHS, OSHA, WHIMIS, SIMDUT).
  • Prepare chemical solutions and reagents following precise formulations and safety standards.
  • Conduct physical and chemical tests on formulations and prepare samples for internal testing and end user trials. 
  • Document all formulation steps, maintain accurate batch records and ensure proper labeling and storage of samples. 
  • Record test results, prepare technical reports, and communicate findings to supervisors.
  • Operate and maintain an organized work area and lab instruments (viscometers, pH meter,….) calibrated and functional.
  • Help with implementing new lab test procedures, methods and standards.
  • Organizes and conducts shelf-life and stability testing, records and communicates results.
  • Participate in chemical R&D development projects as needed.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of Chemistry. Specifically in industrial cleaners, lubricants, penetrants, and surface protectors.
  • Ability to examine and analyze product requirements, form new features or functionality, and implement new strategies. 
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Independent and proactive, sense of planning and organizational skills; able to handle several projects at once
  • Computer literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Results oriented and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience & Education

  • University degree in Chemical engineering, chemistry or any related field of study. 
  • Experience in Industrial or Metalworking industries is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation, chemical handling procedures and analytical methods
  • Bilingual (English and French) due to interactions with international internal & external customers
