Forensic Toxicology Laboratory Technician
(Laboratory Technician III)


Are you looking to begin a career in the world of forensic science? Do you have great time management and communication skills? The Utah Public Health Laboratory is looking for a motivated individual to fill their role of Forensic Toxicology Laboratory Technician.


Responsibilities:

  • Immunoassay (ELISA) screening of case samples
  • Initial sample preparation and extraction of case samples to be analyzed by a forensic toxicologist as necessary
  • GC (gas chromatography) analysis of volatile compounds
  • Reagent preparation and glassware cleaning
  • Sorting, labeling, and maintaining integrity of specimens as deemed necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Prior laboratory experience, either being from professional experience or secondary education
  • Great time management skills
  • The ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent communication skills
Preferred:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific field (at or near completion) OR 4 years of relevant experience
  • Prior experience in a clinical or forensic lab environment
  • Familiarity with biological matrices clinical testing techniques
  • Experience with forensic chain of custody
  • Familiarity with clinical/toxicology lab reports and data
Schedule: 

Standard Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with availability in the event of an emergency.
