Position Location: Main Hospital Campus - Flow Cytometry
Work Hours - Monday through Friday - 7am-530pm | Every 3rd Weekend Call Schedule
Sign on Bonus - $10,000
Description: Maintain, troubleshoot, and backup flow cytometry instrumentation, including daily, weekly, and monthly checks. Ensure all quality metrics and controls are within the established ranges. Assist pathologists in the analysis of flow cytometry data. Ensure reagents and other supplies are organized and viable. Assist manager and pathologists with validations as needed. Aide in the collection of bone marrow specimens. Communicate results, instrument problems, and equipment malfunctions in an accurate and timely manner. Support team members and train new technologists. This position requires the technologist to be available for emergency cases one or two weekends per month.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree - Medical Technology or equivalent related field of science (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
1 year Experience in an accredited clinical laboratory (Required)
Experience in Flow Cytometry - Strongly Preferred
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Math ability level\: Statistics preferred
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge and skills related to FACS CANTO II Instrument, FCS Express, and sample quality assessments
Functional Accountabilities
Technical Performance
- Perform routine technical procedures as assigned, following standard operating procedures
- Perform tests accurately in an organized and efficient manner
- Stay up-to-date with new flow cytometry tests and instrumentation
- Demonstrate competence in assigned areas
- Serve as a technical resource for Medical Lab Technicians and Pathologists
Test Results
- Report tests accurately in writing, orally, and/or in the LIS; demonstrate knowledge of LIS
- Follow established guidelines for reporting results and communicating with assigned pathologists
- Perform primary data analysis of flow cytometry dot blots
- Review testing logs and complete tests within the shift
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform equipment and instrument maintenance according to protocols
- Follow manufacturer and department-defined instrument performance checks and calibrations prior to testing
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic instrument malfunctions using written guidelines
- Make adjustments or minor repairs with the aid of instrument manuals or technical service by phone
- Assist Medical Lab Technicians in resolving problems
- Monitor supply inventories to ensure adequate availability; receive and stock supplies
Quality Control
- Perform, evaluate, and report QC protocol; identify and resolve QC failures; document resolutions
- Assist MLT and LA with unresolved problems
- Complete competency and proficiency challenges in a timely manner
- Use supplies and reagents efficiently and cost-effectively
