Job Description

The Clinical Laboratory Technician analyzes samples of blood, tissue, and body fluids to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels, or blood type. The technician may also search for specific microorganisms such as bacteria or parasites. This role is crucial for providing information for patient diagnosis and treatment through laboratory tests.

Responsibilities

• Consistently uses an outward mindset to achieve individual and team goals.
• Prepares reagents, quality control (QC), and calibrators according to predetermined procedures for routine and special tests.
• Conducts routine and safety program checks, performing preventative maintenance on instrumentation.
• Performs patient testing in all areas of the laboratory.
• Reports QC and calibrations, recalibrating when necessary.
• Draws blood specimens as required.
• Calls critical results as per procedure.
• Logs and processes specimens, ensuring accurate records and report transmission.
• Participates in proficiency testing and assists hospital staff with testing information and collection criteria.
• Answers phones and relays information professionally.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• 2 years of current experience in a clinical laboratory setting - Required
• Phlebotomy experience - Highly preferred
• Associate's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences - Required
• ASCP or equivalent Certification - Required within 6 months of hire
