Description: Beach Eye Care is a fast, fun, and growing company. Customer Service and strong interpersonal skills are a must.
Using the latest Santinelli technology we are able to offer our patients state of the art lenses and treatments. Our lab features equipment for all glasses finishing work only. We are not a lens surfacing lab.
This position is 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. Compensation is salary and base pay is determined by years of experience in the Optical industry. There is also a monthly bonus based on the number of jobs that are edged that make up the full compensation package.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Conveys a commitment to providing unsurpassed Customer Service through ensuring that production staff and satellite Opticians utilizes the “Quality Manufacturing Process” in the production of all eyewear.

· Anticipates problems before they occur; explores underlying reasons for recurring laboratory problems; goes beyond symptoms to get at causes; strives to develop long-term solutions.

· Focuses on developing the most qualified lab associates by ensuring training/coaching in the following areas:

- Quality Process

- Final Inspection

- Loss Prevention

- Breakage control

- Company safety and regulatory compliance programs

- Career development of production lab technicians

· Provides effective on-the-job training and guidance to team members making use of Company provided programs (i.e., Quality Manufacturing Program and the DDP process where applicable).

· Delivers clear, motivating, and constructive feedback in a timely manner to all lab associates and location office management. Confronts problem performers directly and without delay; initiates appropriate coaching or disciplinary action when necessary and follows up to monitor progress.

· Completes formal 90-day reviews and Annual Evaluations for Production Techs. Participates in the delivery of those evaluations.

· Recruits and selects high caliber staff for the lab; is always on the lookout for promising individuals and establishes relationships with them.

· Forecasts staffing needs accurately based on available information and assigns associates through the use the current department method in play. Quickly partners with the Director to adjust staffing levels up or down to meet unexpected increases or decreases in store traffic.

· Decreases labor expense or re-allocates cross trained individuals during slow periods or unexpected periods.

· Assesses resumes and sets up interviews on request for potential lab tech candidates.

· Able to analyze store financial data and makes recommendations regarding steps that can be implemented in the lab to improve profitability.

· Strives to achieve “Far Exceeds Expectations” on all targets set for the following areas:

- Overall Customer Satisfaction

- Remake Ratio

- % Breakage

- % Training Saturation

· Offers Feedback on Opportunities that might exist with usage and programming of current POS.

· Helps and uses the coaching process with staff on entry and processing of orders.

· Completes and files in a timely manner all necessary store, customer paperwork, and ensures staff is filing insurance for reimbursement by completing 5 quality checks a week on random orders during the morning logging process.

· Understands how to utilize and update current Optical Dept. POS. Knows how to order lenses within the POS.

· Has full knowledge of current Lab Management System (LMS) and documents processes and procedures for training.

· Learns and uses the LMS to the fullest extent possible maximizing benefits of tracking and cost saving features.

· Enters current LMS helpdesk/issue tickets within a timely manner and follows through until resolved.

· Ensures that all Company approved lab safety programs are implemented and maintained consistently per standards, creating a safe working environment for all associates and customers.

· Ensures that all lab associates are appropriately trained on the safe use, storage and disposal of approved laboratory chemicals, including annual refresher training. Documents training certificates retained in personnel files. Ensures all newly hired associates receive chemical safety training as part of new hire orientation.

· Leads by example in demonstrating safe workplace practices including wearing safety glasses or high impact polycarbonate or trivex prescription glasses while in the lab.

· Performs administrative duties to include accurate timeclock adjustments when requested.

· Completes and files in a timely manner all necessary store and lab paperwork thoroughly and accurately.

· Tracks breakages and reorders that occur internally as well as from the outside lab vendors.

· Ensures charges are correct on lab invoices that pass through the finishing lab and follows up on credits.

· Maintains BECQMP Best Practices by listing and framing above each workstation.

· Maintains Lab SOP by testing and documenting any old or new processes allowing for information to remain in a centralized location and accessible to all Optical staff.

· Takes pride in the appearance of the lab, lab equipment and stockroom in terms of cleanliness and ongoing maintenance. Ensures all storage areas/equipment are labeled per Company guidelines.

· Responsible for the basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory tools and equipment by ensuring adherence to established BECQMP maintenance procedures and calendars.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

· Thorough technical knowledge of lab processes and equipment

· Strong management/leadership skills

· Strong communicator and listener

· Strong basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

· Knowledge of optical theory

· Problem solving ability.

EDUCATION

· High School Graduate /GED or equivalent experience

· 2 yrs Associates preferred

· State Optician License

· Beach Eye Care Lensometer Training and Certification within 90 days of hire date.

EXPERIENCE

· Previous experience in optical lab.

· 2-4 years management/leadership experience

· 5+ years in optical industry preferred

EDUCATION
