Second Shift Lab Manager – Pre-Production & Mounting
Overview
Dr. Tavel Optical Group is seeking a hands-on, detail-driven Second Shift Lab Manager to lead our Pre-Production and Mounting operations. This role is critical to ensuring lenses are accurately prepared, mounted, and released into the next stage of production while maintaining quality, efficiency, and workflow consistency.
Optical experience is preferred but not required. We provide comprehensive training for candidates eager to learn and grow.

Ideal Candidate Attributes / Key Competencies
- Pre-Production & Mounting Knowledge: Experience in lens prep, mounting, or finishing is a plus but not required
- Leadership Through Action: Comfortable leading by example on the lab floor
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to learn and operate lab machinery and software systems
- Workflow Mindset: Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work effectively
- Communication Skills: Clear, professional communication with lab leadership and cross-functional teams

Responsibilities
- Oversee second-shift pre-production and mounting operations
- Ensure jobs are properly prepared, mounted, and meet quality standards before moving forward
- Monitor workflow queues and prioritize work to meet production goals
- Perform hands-on mounting and pre-production tasks as needed
- Train, support, and guide lab associates within pre-production and mounting
- Identify and resolve workflow issues, quality concerns, or production delays
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and coordinate repairs when needed
- Communicate production status, challenges, and needs to lab leadership
- Maintain accurate documentation and adherence to lab procedures
- Ensure a clean, organized, and efficient work environment
- Support coverage needs during PTO, absences, or backlog situations
Qualifications
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds
- Comfort working with small parts and performing repetitive, detail-oriented tasks
- 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing, production, or lab environment preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Basic proficiency with computers and lab software systems
- Experience with Microsoft Office and general computer navigation
- Ability to work independently while managing shifting priorities
