Job Description

About the role

This is a full-time Senior Microbiologist role based in Bukit Mertajam, Penang at Eurofins NM Laboratory Sdn Bhd, a leading provider of analytical testing services. As a Senior Microbiologist, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the safety and quality of food, environmental, and product samples through the application of advanced microbiological techniques and analysis. You will also support method development, troubleshooting, and mentoring of junior analysts to uphold high laboratory standards.

What you'll be doing

  1. Conduct a wide range of microbiological tests and analyses on food, environmental, and product samples to detect pathogens, spoilage organisms, and other contaminants.

  2. Perform laboratory procedures such as sample preparation, media preparation, culturing, enumeration, and identification of microorganisms.

  3. Interpret test results and provide accurate, timely, and detailed reports to internal and external stakeholders.

  4. Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, internal SOPs, and regulatory requirements.

  5. Lead or support method validation, verification, and troubleshooting of microbiological methods.

  6. Collaborate with the quality assurance and technical teams to develop and implement new testing methods and continuous improvement initiatives.

  7. Supervise and mentor junior microbiologists and lab technicians, ensuring proper training and adherence to safety and quality protocols.

  8. Maintain accurate records, equipment calibration logs, and documentation of all testing activities.

  9. Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, and client audits as required.

  10. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry regulations, technologies, and microbiological testing trends.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Biotechnology, or a related field.

  2. Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably in food, environmental, or product testing.

  3. Strong knowledge of microbiological principles, aseptic techniques, and laboratory instrumentation (e.g., autoclaves, incubators, biosafety cabinets).

  4. Familiarity with pathogen detection methods (e.g., Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli), indicator organisms, and environmental monitoring.

  5. Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation and quality systems.

  6. Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  7. Proficient in data analysis, LIMS usage, and technical report writing.

  8. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

  9. Passion for food safety, environmental health, and continuous improvement.
