A Day in the Life
Medtronic is seeking a Senior Microbiologist - Sterilization Supervisor to join its team in Mirandola. In this key role, you will lead the Sterility Assurance team, supporting both the Mirandola and Reggiolo sites. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of sterility, quality, and regulatory compliance across all operations.
Reporting directly to the EMEA Sterility Assurance Leader, you will play a crucial role in driving excellence within sterility assurance processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and contributing to Medtronic’s mission of improving lives through innovative healthcare solutions.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Leads and manages a Sterility Assurance team of four, overseeing tactical and operational activities and contributing to strategic initiatives related to sterilization and microbiology
- Sets performance expectations, provides coaching, and ensures team results meet or exceed defined objectives. Supports internal and external inspections, and ensures timely resolution of audit and inspection findings
- Participates in regional sterility assurance programs and collaborates with peers across EMEA to maintain high performance standards Provides technical oversight of chemical and microbiological analyses; reviews and approves results and ensures compliance with specifications
- Ensures proper implementation of sterilization processes, including technical oversight of validation, monitoring, and documentation
- Reviews data, identifies trends, and recommends corrective and preventive actions to improve efficiency and compliance
- Maintains and updates site’s sterility assurance policies, procedures, and documentation in accordance with company’s global and regional guidelines and in compliance with regulatory requirements
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 1 year of relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience, including scheduling, prioritization, coaching, and team development
- Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams
- Strong capability to manage both strategic initiatives and day-to-day operations while allocating resources effectively
- Hands on experience with either ethylene oxide (EO) sterilization and/or microbiological assays
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
Desirable qualifications include Lean Six Sigma knowledge or certification (Yellow Belt or Green Belt) and a solid understanding of project management fundamentals.
