TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant for this position must possess and/or show evidence of the following:
-Hold a valid West Virginia Certificate in Speech-Language Pathology.
-Licensed by West Virginia Board of Examiners for SLPS.
-Demonstrate a strong academic background.
-Exhibit a practical knowledge and understanding of speech and language development and communication disorders.
-Show evidence and/or training in the areas of speech and language disorders.
-Demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of speech and language and their relationship to educational performance, psychosocial development and/or vocational/career potential.
-Demonstrate a general understanding of classroom curriculum.
-Exhibit an understanding and proficiency related to a variety of speech and language diagnostic instruments.
- Understand and interpret test data in order to improve the communication skills of students.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or skill in audiological evaluation and hearing aid monitoring procedures.
-Exhibit knowledge and/or experience working with students who need speech and/or language training or remediation.
- Demonstrate the ability to translate speech and language objectives into effective therapy sessions.
-Exhibit proficiency in planning sessions designed to meet the individual needs of the students.
-Demonstrate expertise in the use of a variety of therapeutic materials, techniques and equipment.
-Exhibit knowledge of the different modalities of learning.
-Demonstrate the ability to select teaching strategies that compliment individual learning styles.
Speech-Language Pathologist
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: -Demonstrate an understanding of computer software and augmentative/alternative communication devices in working with communication disorders students.
-Exhibit and understanding of principals needed to obtain positive student behavior.
-Demonstrate knowledge and ability to implement routine management techniques.
-Demonstrate the ability to create a stimulating and motivating environment of students.
-Demonstrate skill in writing and speaking.
-Exhibit evidence of skills and/or experience in maintaining a cooperative working relationship with staff, students and public.
- Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a speech/language pathologist.
-Any alterations to the aforementioned qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Supervisor of Pupil Services and Building Principal
(while in the assigned building)
SUPERVISES: Students
SELECTION: The position is filled by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools
SALARY AND Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation. Harrison County Professional Salary Schedule
EMPLOYMENT: 200 day employment term
